Use of professional print inspection in the pharmaceutical industry

Customers, especially in the pharmaceutical industry, place high demands on packaging printing based on existing guidelines such as GMP, and require the use of control systems that ensure high print quality. The use of these systems can therefore significantly contribute to meeting the high quality and safety requirements in the pharmaceutical industry.

Sophisticated print inspection of pharmaceutical labels

In 2016, the Swedish company Eson Pac agreed with a large international pharmaceutical group on the production of labels. To ensure quality in the long term, it was necessary to find a new solution in off-line inspection. Through the use of the EyeC inspection system, Eson Pac guarantees both the required prepress control and the inspection of samples throughout the entire label printing process. The verification system EyeC Proofiler 400 DT combined with the Proofiler Graphic option met all the criteria required by the pharmaceutical group.

The EyeC Proofiler 400 DT performs a comprehensive inspection of samples against one or more approved PDF files or a reference print. The Graphic Proofiler option enables graphic inspection from a pre-printed PDF file in prepress printing.

In this way, Eson Pac has secured its position in the field of pharmaceutical packaging thanks to the use of an inspection system that complies with the ISO 9001, GMP, GAMP 5, and 21 CFR Part 11 standards.

Easy offline sample inspection

At the Drupa 2016 trade fair in Düsseldorf, Eson Pac visited the EyeC stand and requested a short live demo of the off-line inspection system directly at its Swiss production plant. "When choosing a suitable inspection system, besides complying with all the requirements of our pharmaceutical customers, it was very important to have simple and safe handling of the system. During the demo test, the Proofiler system immediately proved itself to us: quality control in prepress and during printing is much simpler, clearer, and safer," emphasizes Markus Güntert, site manager in Aesch. At the same time, the company was very satisfied with the service and support from EyeC: "Thanks to professional and fast training, our employees in the prepress department were able to successfully carry out quality inspections after a short time," said Güntert.

For six months now, the EyeC system has taken over the review of prepress work and the offline inspection of samples during label printing, thereby ensuring compliance with high quality standards.
