Grafico printing house uses our Autopack machine – an automatic delivery unit

Can one person on their own take off the output of a folder-gluer running at 220 metres per minute? With the new delivery unit from Versotrade, yes – with the other hand in their pocket!

The company Versotrade Mr Petr Chlup focuses on supplying machine solutions that are custom-designed for each customer according to their specific requirements. The main aim is always to make the operator's work easier and increase production efficiency. Versotrade recently also supplied its machine to the Grafico printing house in Opava.

As is well known, Grafico is one of the largest printing houses in the Czech Republic. Every day it produces a huge number of folding boxes. Grafico's production floor includes several Bobst folder-gluers that produce boxes of the highest quality. Although Grafico employs very skilled staff, it was unable to exploit the full production potential of these machines. It was simply beyond human capacity to take off the output at high folder-gluer speeds. It is a bit like buying a proper sports car but being unable to floor the accelerator because the road you are driving on is full of potholes.

Versotrade was aware of this situation and set out to find a solutionthat would not only allow the folder-gluers' production potential to be fully exploited but also make take-off more comfortable for the operators. And he found one! Versotrade sourced and supplied an automated delivery unitthat connects to the end conveyor of the folder-gluer. At first glance it is a very simple machine, consisting essentially of two arms set at right angles to each other. The first arm takes the shingled stream of boxes from the folder-gluer, and the second serves as a convenient delivery table for the operator. What is so special about that, you may ask? The real magic lies where the two arms meet: the boxes, which leave the folder-gluer lying flat one after another, are stood upright and lined up in sequence in the Versotrade delivery unit. Thanks to this simple solution, the speed at the end of the delivery unit is considerably reduced.

What does this mean for a printing house? A standard folder-gluer delivery requires two operators, who usually also have to lean awkwardly for the boxes coming out in the middle of the belt. Not only does the pair damage their health, they are glad if they can keep up with a folder-gluer speed of 150 m/min. Once the Versotrade delivery unit is installed, the job is done by just one person, who alone can take off the stream of production at a speed of to 220 m/min, and still has time to spare. In addition, the delivery unit is set at an ergonomic height that is comfortable for the operator. The operator does not need to lean far for the boxes, as the finished boxes come out literally just a few centimetres away.

Higher output, less labour
