Corrugated board packaging made to exact need in 2026
Packaging designed exactly to the size of the product is becoming an increasingly important topic for corrugated board packaging manufacturers, industrial companies, logistics companies and e-commerce operators.
Companies today process an ever-growing number of products of various sizes, smaller production batches and a growing number of requests for individually customized packaging. At the same time, there is increasing pressure to reduce unnecessary material consumption, excess empty space inside packages and stocks of finished boxes.
The European Union Regulation on packaging and packaging waste, commonly referred to as PPWR, will begin to apply from 12 August 2026. The regulation introduces new requirements for packaging minimization and, going forward, sets a maximum empty space ratio of 50% for grouped, transport and e-commerce packaging. The exact calculation methodology will be set out in a separate implementing act.
These changes are increasing interest in the flexible production of corrugated board packaging exactly to the required dimensions and at the moment it is actually needed. Producing boxes to the specific dimensions of a product or shipment makes it possible to reduce material consumption, limit unnecessary empty space and respond more efficiently to changing production and logistics requirements.
